Toddlers can be the pickiest customers. There are memes all over the internet showing toddlers as these twig/dirt/leaf loving monsters but when it comes to eating meals, they’re the first to turn their noses up at the mere suggestion of a balanced meal. If it were up to them, they’d balance their meals with pizza, chicken nuggets and sand from the sandbox. Here are some meal ideas that will hopefully entice your toddlers enough that they’ll at least give it a try.
Honey Garlic Chicken, Fries and Green Beans
I made the honey garlic chicken using a simple Pinterest recipe (found here). I added some frozen French fries and some steamed green beans to complete the supper.
Barbecued Chicken Drumsticks, Seasoned Rice and Cucumber
This dish is another chicken dish. My husband barbecued some chicken drumsticks with some barbecue sauce and seasoning, and we served them with some seasoned Spanish rice and some sliced cucumbers.
Cheeseburger, Seasoned Wedges and Burger Toppings
The “deconstructed” hamburger is a hit in my house. My daughter has the typical toddler phobia of things touching, particularly if they’re green and vegetable like. I served a plain burger with the toppings on the side, and added wedge fries. Yum!
Taco with Ground Beef, Peppers, Onion and cheese served with a side salad and olives.
A taco is a child friendly, weekday friendly, easy meal to make. I prepared the meat with peppers and onions to try and blend them in a bit, and of course taco seasoning. I topped it with cheese. I added olives (an odd but current favourite) and a small salad to the other two compartments.
Pork Sausage with White Rice, Carrot Sticks and Oranges
The last meal is some locally farmed barbecued pork sausages with ketchup to dip, some white rice with no seasoning whatsoever, some carrot sticks and cut up oranges. A little bit of everything!
Hopefully this post gave you a few summer menu ideas, especially if you’re a heavy barbecue family in the summer like we are. Let me know if you try any of these below!
